The 2018 Ryder Cup is tantalisingly close – just a matter of days now.
Bookmakers think it will be a close contest.
But there is one area where Europe are way ahead of the Americans – it’s 5 -1 in holes-in-one.
There have only been six aces in Ryder Cup history – and it wasn’t until 1973 that the first one was registered – by Englishman Peter Butler at Muirfield.
The full list of guys who have aced a hole in Ryder Cup competition is as follows:
1973 – Muirfield 16th - Peter Butler
1993 – The Belfry 14th – Nick Faldo
1995 – Oak Hill 6th – Constantino Rocca
1995 - Oak Hill 11th – Howard Clark
2006 – K Club 14th – Paul Casey
2006 – K Club 14th – Scott Verplank
All of these guys won the match in which they achieved the hole-in-one except Peter Butler, who was paired with Brain Barnes against the great Jack Nicklaus and Tom Weiskopf – not a bad pairing!!
The sole US representative on this list and the last Ryder Cup player to hole a tee-shot was Scott Verplank who beat Padraig Harrington 4&3 – a rather unpopular win in Ireland.
