READING GOLFER DEFIES THE ODDS WITH A PAIR OF ACES
Schmidt becomes the H1 Club's first two-time winner
Readings’s Avril Schmidt has achieved the remarkable feat of scoring two holes-in-one in a month, becoming the first double-winner of the limited-edition BOSS watch.
Nearly 1,000 golfers have so far received a commemorative BOSS watch for scoring a hole-in-one during a club competition, but Schmidt is the first twin-ace member of the exclusive BOSS Watches H1 Club.
Schmidt, 25, scored both holes-in-one at the 149-yard, par-three 11th at her club, Reading, and the 14-handicapper was rewarded with membership of the H1 Club and two specially-commissioned timepieces.
Schmidt, who lives in Woodley, said: “I was checking on the internet and I think the odds for a hole-in-one are about 8000-1, so who knows what they are for two aces in a month.
“As I stood on the tee before my second ace, I mentioned the previous hole-in-one to my playing partners, not for one moment expecting to repeat the feat. Then I hit my shot and just started laughing as I realised the ball had gone straight in again!”
Schmidt’s aces capped off a memorable summer for the young golfer, who achieved a first in her teaching degree in June, and will start her first teaching job in September at Westfield Junior School in Yateley.
