Hove golfer Geoffrey Bibby defied astronomical odds recently when he achieved a hole-in-one on the same hole his ex-wife had aced just a month earlier.
Bibby, 61, a member at West Hove GC, who plays off 15, achieved the feat with his five-wood on the 193-yard, par-three third at his home club.
But, he soon learned he had merely followed in the footsteps of his former wife, Megan – who plays off 12 and is also the club secretary – after she achieved her third ace.
He said: “I hit a five-wood into the wind, which landed on the front edge of the green, then rolled into the hole. I’ve been playing golf for about 30 years and hadn’t played in about six weeks before achieving the ace, so I was thrilled when I saw the ball go in.
“Following my ace, I was astonished when I found out Megan had achieved a hole-in-one on the same hole as me – what are the odds?
“I was just checking the West Hove club website to see if there was a tournament on during my regular tee time, when I saw her news story pop up and nearly spat out my tea. We used to play together and we get along really well, so I was delighted for her.”
