Hole In One

Margaret Thompson

- Helensburgh 9 100 yd 4th September 2018

I was hoping for a good round in the September medal and although the first few holes were not bad I had a disaster on the 5th being in two bunkers and finishing with a 13. However I kept going. The 9th hole from the red tee is always tricky. There are trees and bushes and rough ground on the right, a lane which is out of bounds ahead and the sloping green is on the other side on the lane. Many of the ladies hate this hole as it can ruin your score. However on that day I had the perfect shot with my 7 iron landing just on the green and my ball rolled gently across the green towards the hole and disappeared. My playing partner and I could not believe our eyes. We let out a scream and hugged each other. I'm afraid the excitement put my partner off her game as she put her first four drives either on the road or in the trees but eventually got on the green and had two puts finishing with an 11. It is a difficult hole.
